Musings on Marley Fest

I had never been very into reggae, but yesterday at Marley Fest, I gained a new perspective on that sort of music. The message of the music was very positive – it encouraged friendship, human rights and peace. There was a even a song written entirely about promoting human rights. This is what struck me the most. The music showed a total lack of the explosive divisiveness found in dogmatic ideologies and in-group/out-group thinking. The music was explicitly about promoting community, co-operation, and peace. What I took from this experience is that there needs to be greater expression and celebration of these ideas in our culture if we are to bring about a more peaceful, free society.
